How Does a Digital Satellite Finder Work?Voltage Controlled Oscillator
The electronic oscillator produces electrical signals. Voltage-controlled oscillators control how much electricity is input into the digital satellite finder. This is done by using a varicap diode, which can hold different amounts of charges by using reverse-bias. The voltage controlled oscillator can determine how much of a signal the satellite is sending, allowing the receiver to pinpoint where the satellite is.
The ACG voltage from the satellite signal is read by the meter and the audible tone. This signal is converted by the low-noise block converter (LNB). The LNB uses a waveguide to guide waves to the LNB.
Satellite finders must be adjusted until the satellite finder detects the strongest signal. This allows you to locate where the satellite is in the sky. The finder can be moved using an adjustable scale. On top of the finder is a Compass Sight, which will give you readings and also help you indicate any obstacles to the finder.
Define DVBDVB is short for Digital Video Broadcast, it is a same device as STB. How to Use a Satellite Finder Meter?
A satellite finder meter is a specialized device designed to help you position your satellite dish to receive the strongest signal for best television reception. They are simple to operate and are designed to be used while you're at the satellite dish so you don't have to check your signal strength at your television set. There are both analog and digital models available, both with and without internal power supplies.
1.Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the barrel connector on the satellite dish's low noise block downconverter (LNB) and the other end to the satellite finder meter. The LNB is the arm that faces the reflector dish.
2.Loosen the nuts that allow the dish to be adjusted both along the horizontal (azimuth) and vertical (elevation) planes.
3.Move the dish from side to side along the horizontal plane until you determine the position at which the satellite finder meter displays maximum signal strength.
If you're using an analog meter, you will find this position in increments. First, adjust the gain knob so the meter's needle reads half strength. As you move the dish closer to its optimal position, the meter may exceed maximum. If this happens, readjust the gain lower and continue to move the dish until you determine the position where maximum signal strength is received.
4.Raise and lower the dish along the vertical plane until you determine the elevation at which the satellite finder meter displays maximum signal strength. If using an analog meter, you may have to adjust the gain as in the previous step.
5.Tighten the nuts to lock your satellite dish into place.
6.Disconnect the coaxial cable from the LNB on the satellite dish.
How to Use a Satellite Finder Tool?
A satellite dish must be aimed directly at the overhead satellite in order to receive satellite transmissions. To ensure that the satellite amplifier on the satellite dish is receiving as strong a signal as possible, use a satellite finder tool. A number of these devices are available, all of which operate in a similar manner to inform you of the strength of the satellite transmission's signal. The procedure will not damage the satellite dish in any way, although the signal being sent to the satellite receiver will be interrupted during the use of the satellite finder tool.
1.Open the battery compartment lid on the satellite finder tool. Insert a new battery into the battery compartment. Close the lid.
2.Unscrew the coaxial cable connected to the coax output on the bottom of the LNB satellite module that is at the far end of the pole attached to the front of the satellite dish.
3.Screw an end of the 6-foot coaxial cable into the coax output. Screw the other end into the "Satellite finder" input on the left side of the Satellite finder tool.
4.Screw the free end of the coaxial cable that was removed from the LNB module into the "Coax" output on the right side of the Satellite finder tool.
5.Twist the "Power" knob on the Satellite finder tool to the right to turn it on. Twist the "Gain" knob to the right of the other knob until the needle in the window on the Satellite finder tool begins to twitch a little up and down.
6.Loosen the "Elevation" knob on the side of the satellite dish. Raise and lower the dish while watching the needle on the satellite finder tool. Stop moving the dish when the needle is pointing to the highest number on the scale pasted inside of the window. Lock down the "Elevation" knob. Repeat this procedure with the other knob on the side of the satellite dish and moving the dish laterally until the needle is pointing to the highest number. Lock down the knob.
7.Unscrew the coaxial cable from the LNB module and the satellite finder tool. Unscrew the coaxial cable from the "Coax" output on the satellite finder tool. Screw the coaxial cable back onto the coax output on the LNB module. Turn the satellite finder tool's power off by twisting the knob to the left.
How to Operate a Satellite Finder?
Satellite finders are helpful tools in finding stronger satellite signals. These signal-finding devices can give you real-time signal information while your are attempting to tune your satellite receiver. In many cases, making an attempt to adjust your satellite dish to receive a stronger signal without the use of a satellite finder device can be a very frustrating task. Although satellite finders may vary in some aspect of design, such as digital and analog displays or type of power supply, they all operate in the same basic manner.1.Use the RG6 cable to connect the satellite dish to the satellite finder. You will find the barrel connector underneath the satellite arm where you can make this connection.
2.Turn the satellite finder on. Depending on the model of the device, the "On/Off" button may be in a different location, but it is usually on the top of the device.
3.Loosen the nuts on the back and sides of the satellite dish in order to adjust the position of the dish. Turn the dish up and down and side to side to adjust it.
4.Observe the gauge on the satellite finder as you adjust the position of the dish. Look for the gauge on the satellite finder to increase. On analog displays, the needle will move to the right, and on digital displays, the numbers will increase as the signal gets stronger. When you see the signal strength increase, you can stop adjusting the dish and re-tighten the nuts.
How to Use Old DirecTV Dish for an Antenna?
An old DirecTV dish can be used as an antenna because it is able to reflect and concentrate the signals broadcast by the TV stations. Since they are already mounted outside, already wired and not in use, they can make a good stand and an extension for enhancing the signal coming to a regular antenna. The dish cannot be used as an antenna alone, but rather as a supplement and will make the channels clearer and less erratic.
1.Purchase a small antenna, which will be used to pick up the signal from the TV broadcasters. Measure your dish and record the size of its center when you buy the antenna.
2.Drill a hole in the wood large enough so that the wiring coming out of the center of the antenna can get through the hole. Secure the piece of wood against the inside of the antenna with duct tape.
3.Lay the wire-mesh on the inside of the antenna so that it covers the entire surface. Use the box cutter to cut a hole in the middle of the mesh so that it can fit around the wood, which is installed already. Use the duct tape to secure the mesh to the edges of the dish.
4.Connect the wiring to the antenna that you have bought. Most antennas have holes for wires which can be snapped in with the use of your fingers.
5.Drill small holes in the wood to secure the antenna. If the antenna does not have small openings for the installation anywhere on its base, then drill the holes through it as well. The holes should be smaller than the head of the screw or they won't hold.
6.Secure the antenna to the wood with the screws using a screwdriver to finish creating your antenna. Since the antenna is located in the middle of the dish, and the dish is a curved reflective surface, the signal will be magnified towards the antenna. This creates a much better picture on your television. This uses all of the components in unison to create a very powerful receiver.
How to Find a Signal for FTA Satellite?
1.Verify that the satellite receiver for your FTA system is turned on. Press the "Power" button that is on the receiver or remote control.
2.Disconnect the coaxial cable from the LNB ("Low Noise Blocker") on the dish and connect it to the input port on the satellite signal finder.
3.Connect a shorter length of coaxial cable from the output port on the satellite signal finder to the LNB on the satellite dish.
4.Turn the knob for "DB" or "Level" clockwise until the reading on the display is between 1 and 2. Some models may need to have the level set to 5.
5.Adjust the position of the dish until the reading on the satellite signal finder increases to l0. You may hear a buzz or beep, depending on the model of satellite signal finder.
6.Turn the "DB" or "Level" knob counterclockwise to reduce the reading on the display to between 1 and 2 or 5.
7.Remove the coaxial cables from the satellite signal meter and the LNB. Connect the coaxial cable from the receiver back to the LNB.
How to Align a Sight Satellite Finder?
The Align-A-Site product is a signal finder that allows you to locate the satellite signal for your dish in difficult locations like a camping site that is surrounded by trees obstructing your line-of-sight. Unlike a signal meter that will just test the strength of the signal, you have already located the Align-A-Site will actually help you find the signal. To align the Align-A-Site, you will first need to find the coordinates for your location by going into the menu on the receiver under the dish pointing option. Once you have the coordinates, you are ready to use your Align-A-Site.
1.Set the elevation and the azimuth coordinates on the Align-A-Site by setting the dials on the number you need for your location. If you have a single LNB, those are the only setting you will need. If you are using a multiple LNB, you will need to set the skew coordinates on the dish later.
2.Set the skew/tilt setting on the Align-A-Site at 90 degrees to start the search. Look through the viewfinder and scout the area for the best possible signal.
3.Mark the location where you found the best signal for the area.
4.Place your dish on the spot you marked pointing in the direction of the signal. If you have a multiple LNB dish, you can set the skew on your dish to the coordinates you need for your location. Now set the dish to the elevation and azimuth you need by loosing the bolts on the back of the dish and adjusting the dish to the correct numbers you need.
5.Go inside and check the signal strength on your receiver to confirm it is strong enough.
How to Use a Satellite Finder for Signal Quality?
When installing your new digital satellites system one of the keys to getting the great picture and channel selection you paid for with minimum service interruption is the strength of the signal your satellite is receiving. The easiest way to test your signal strength is to use a "Satellite Finder" or Signal Strength Meter.
1.Locate the coaxial cable connected to your dish's LNB (Low-Noise Blocker). This is the cable coming out of the LNB arm on your dish.
2.Unhook the coaxial cable connected to the LNB and connect it to the "From LNB" on the signal finder by twisting the cable on just like hooking up your television to your wall.
3.Find the coaxial cable running into the house. Make sure the cable is connected to your digital satellite receiver.
4.Twist the coaxial cable onto the "To Receiver" jack on the signal finder. This connection will power the signal finder. If your signal finder is self-powered you won't have the "To Receiver" input to on your signal finder.
5.Find the satellite signal. Start by pointing your dish towards Texas. Set your elevation by using the set-up guide on your receiver. Check your signal finder for a reading. If you are not satisfied with the signal, move the dish back and forth about 15 to 20 degrees until you find a stronger signal. The higher the signal strength you can find the better.
Can I receive all the channels listed
You can receive only those channels that your satellite dish is able to receive. If you have a motorised system with a dish of a suitable size then it may be possible to receive all of the channels listed.
|Can I get satellite TV?
|Most people can get satellite TV. There are basically two criteria you must meet:

|What's the difference between different size dishes?
|The bigger the dish is the better the reception is when weather is bad, heaven rain for example. This is why TV broadcasting stations always use big dishes even for KU band signal receiption. Beside weather, the building complexity also influences the reception in some cases. We recommend open space with minimum interruption.
|Do I need a special TV to receive satellite program? Do I have to give up cable programs?
|You don't need a special TV, digital satellite broadcasting works with any existing type of TVs. You do NOT need to give up cable to receive satellite programs. Cable and satellite don't use the same singal input. Satellite receiver works like a DVD player, to make it simple.
|Can I use my existing wiring to install my satellite system?
|If the cable in your house is RG-6 coax cable, you can use it to connect your receiver to your satellite dish. If your cable is not RG6 coax, you will need to run new cable. It is important that you use RG6 cable due to the frequency of the digital signals it must carry.
|What is Subscription?
|Dream Broadcasting System programs are not free-to-air. The service is based on subscription. Customer have to pay subscription each year to continue the service. Each subscription card has a serials number(bar code) paired with it's decoer. Dream manages subscription through thiese serial numbers. When your subscription expires, your system stops working until the company receives your subscription to continue the service. Two channels are free-to-air, Channe 10 and 12. They two channels are to test if your dish signal receiption is ok.
|How many TVs can I connect to one dish? or to one dish/receiver?
|You can connect as many TVs as you want to one receiver with a dish signal connection. However, the TVs can not show you different channels at the same time. Similarly, you can connect multiple receivers to one dish to share the signal receiption.
